Filenames and folders in AirFrame.One: your S3 bucket is never modified

A common question from media teams and IT departments is whether AirFrame.One (AF.1) makes changes to their storage. The answer is no: all filename and folder handling in AF.1 happens as metadata within the platform, and your S3 objects stay untouched.

Two filenames per file

For every indexed file, AF.1 stores two filename fields:

  • Original Filename: the immutable filename as read from S3. This never changes.
  • Filename: the logical filename shown throughout the AF.1 interface. This field is user-editable.

When you rename a file in AF.1, only the logical filename changes. The original S3 object key and filename remain exactly as they are. Your S3 environment is never modified, while AF.1 presents user-friendly names to editors and producers.

Folders are logical, not physical

Folder structures shown in AF.1 are logical constructs, maintained with metadata inside the platform. AF.1 does not create, modify or remove folders on your S3 bucket. This keeps folder organization in AF.1 fully flexible and reversible, without any risk to your storage layout.
